Building a Cedar SUP is a very rewarding project. You not only get a SUP that EVERYONE will admire, but you can say- “I built that!”
Building a Cedar SUP is a very rewarding project. You not only get a SUP that EVERYONE will admire, but you can say- “I built that!”
The SUP is put together on a custom built table that you will build using common 2×4 and 2×2 lumber. This is an important part of the process in that it will affect the end product.
The top and bottom panels are created by gluing strips of Western Red Cedar, along with accent strips, together to create a unique 30″ by 12′ panel.
The CNC cut forms are accurate and snap together to insure a correct, engineered fit.
The bottom shape of the board is defined by the rocker built into the strongback. Our precise instructions make it easy for you to set this up.
The forms are affixed to the bottom panel locking in the rocker.
Cedar Boards are unique in that we use hollow striped rails.
Several areas of the board require additional support. The Fin Block, carrying handle, vent plugs and tie downs require internal support.
After shaping the rails, the top panel is epoxied to the forms.
Once the top panel is attached, the board is shaped by planing and sanding.
The top and bottom of the board is covered in 6 oz fiberglass cloth, with additional coats to create a smooth finish.
The Fin, block, vent plugs, tie downs and carrying handle are attached.
Several layers of marine varnish are applied.
